Do tiny quests every day. Earn coins. Trade them for the apps that rot your brain — on your terms.
Roty's mascot reflects your phone habits in real time. The more you doom-scroll, the more your brain rots. Do quests daily to keep it fresh — and smiling.
Every coin was earned through real effort. Trade them for the apps you want. 1 coin = 1 minute. Apps re-lock automatically when time's up — no manual steps needed.
Free to download. No account. No ads. Your data stays on your device.
🍎 Download on App StoreRoty is built on a simple principle: your data is yours. Everything stays on your device. We don't collect it, sell it, or share it.
Roty is an iOS application developed and published by Oktay Evin, an independent developer based in Istanbul, Turkey. Roty is a gamified habit-building app that uses Apple's Screen Time API to let users lock and unlock apps based on coins earned by completing real-life daily quests.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Roty iOS app and governs how any information related to your use of the App is handled. By using Roty, you agree to the practices described in this document.
For any privacy-related questions, you can reach us at [email protected]
If you only read one section, read this one:
All your data lives on your device. Roty has no backend server. There is no database we control that contains your information.
We never transmit personal data. Your name, quests, coins, streaks, and habits never leave your iPhone.
No analytics, no trackers, no ads. Roty contains zero third-party SDKs that collect behavioral or personal data.
No account required. You never sign up, log in, or provide an email address to use Roty.
Deleting the app deletes everything. Uninstalling Roty removes all locally stored data permanently.
Roty stores a minimal set of data locally on your device only, using Apple's standard on-device storage (SwiftData and UserDefaults). None of it is accessible to us or any third party.
| Data | Stored | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your first name (optional) | On-device (UserDefaults) | Personalises the "Hello, [Name]" greeting on the dashboard |
| Age & daily phone usage estimate (onboarding) | On-device (UserDefaults) | Calculates the brain rot meter and impact stats shown during onboarding |
| Quest list & completion history | On-device (SwiftData) | Tracks which quests you've completed and your overall progress |
| Coin balance | On-device (UserDefaults) | Stores your earned coins so you can spend them in the Shop |
| Daily streak count | On-device (UserDefaults) | Tracks consecutive days of completing at least one quest |
| Step count (read-only from Apple Health) | Never stored — read live from HealthKit | Displays today's steps and calculates bonus coin rewards |
| Selected apps for Screen Time blocking | On-device App Group (shared container) | Tells the DeviceActivityMonitor extension which apps to block/unblock |
| App unlock timer state | On-device (UserDefaults) | Tracks whether apps are currently unlocked and how much time remains |
| Onboarding completion flag | On-device (UserDefaults) | Remembers whether setup is complete so it's not shown again |
| App theme preference | On-device (UserDefaults) | Remembers your light/dark/system appearance setting |
Photos taken for photo quests are never saved or stored. When you complete a photo quest, the photo is passed directly to on-device image recognition and immediately discarded. It is never written to your Photo Library, saved to disk, or transmitted anywhere.
To be completely explicit, Roty never collects, processes, or transmits any of the following:
Device identifiers — no IDFA, IDFV, serial number, or any hardware identifier
Location data — Roty never requests or reads your GPS location
IP address or network data — Roty makes no outbound network requests during normal use
Contacts, calendar, or messages — Roty does not access any communication data
Crash reports or diagnostic data — no crash reporting SDK is included
Behavioral analytics — no events, sessions, screen views, or tap data are tracked
Financial or payment information — in-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Roty never sees your payment details
Health data beyond step count — Roty only reads today's step count from HealthKit and does not read, write, or store any other health metrics
Roty contains no third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, crash reporters, or data brokers. The only external services involved are Apple's own platform services:
Apple HealthKit — read-only, fetches your daily step count. Governed by Apple's privacy policy and iOS permissions you control.
Apple Screen Time (FamilyControls / ManagedSettings / DeviceActivity) — used to block and unblock your chosen apps. Data stays entirely within iOS.
Apple Push Notifications (UNUserNotificationCenter) — local, on-device notifications only (e.g. timer expiry alerts). No remote push server.
Apple App Store / StoreKit — handles any in-app purchase transactions. Roty only receives a purchase confirmation, never your payment details.
Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/privacy.
Roty requests the following iOS permissions. You can revoke any at any time in iOS Settings → Roty.
Screen Time (FamilyControls) — Required. Used for app blocking and unlocking via the DeviceActivityMonitor extension. The core feature won't work without this.
Apple Health (HealthKit — Steps only) — Optional. Reads today's step count for the step reward feature. Only step count is accessed, no other health data.
Notifications — Optional. Used for local, on-device reminders only (e.g. relock alerts). No remote push notifications whatsoever.
Camera — Optional. Used only during photo quest verification. Photos are processed on-device and immediately discarded — never saved or shared.
Roty will always explain why a permission is needed before requesting it. You will never be surprised by an unexpected permission prompt.
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you are always in full control of it.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored Roty data permanently — quest history, coin balance, streak, name, preferences — everything.
Revoking HealthKit permission in iOS Settings immediately stops Roty from reading step data. Previously read step counts are not stored and are discarded after display.
There is no account to delete — we hold no copy of your data on any server. No deletion request needs to be submitted to us.
Roty is designed to be suitable for users of all ages. The onboarding flow explicitly supports users as young as 8 years old.
Because Roty collects no personal data and transmits nothing off-device, it does not raise concerns under children's privacy regulations including COPPA (US), GDPR-K (EU), or KVKK (Turkey). No personal information is collected, processed, or shared regardless of the user's age.
If you are a parent or guardian with concerns about your child's use of Roty, please contact us at [email protected]. We are happy to assist.
Because Roty stores all data locally and we hold no personal data on our end, most rights are automatically satisfied — you already have full access, control, portability, and erasure capability through your own device.
Right to access — All your data is on your device. Open the app to see it at any time.
Right to rectification — Edit your name and settings directly inside the app's Settings screen.
Right to erasure — Delete the app. All data is gone immediately. No server-side copy exists.
Right to portability — Your data is in standard iOS formats, included in any iPhone backup you choose to create.
Right to object / restrict — Revoke any individual permission (Health, Notifications, Camera) at any time via iOS Settings without deleting the app.
If you believe your rights have not been satisfied, contact us at [email protected]. EU residents may also lodge a complaint with their local Data Protection Authority. Turkish residents may contact the KVKK at kvkk.gov.tr.
This policy is written to comply with data protection laws across the following jurisdictions. Compliance is largely inherent in the app's privacy-by-design architecture.
GDPR: Roty does not act as a "data controller" or "data processor" under GDPR because we do not collect, store, or process personal data on any infrastructure we control.
KVKK: No personal data is processed outside of the user's own device. No data transfer to third countries occurs.
COPPA: Roty does not collect personal information from users of any age, and is therefore fully compliant.
The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised whenever changes are made.
If a change is material (e.g. we begin collecting new data), we will notify users through the App Store release notes or an in-app notice.
We commit to never silently introducing data collection without updating this policy and notifying users first.
